Website “puts a spell on
the web” via individualized audio quizzes
eSpindle Learning announces
a contest to solicit personal mnemonics, memory aids, jokes
and other spelling tips used to remember commonly misspelled words.
eSpindle Learning is an educational 501(c)3 non-profit
parent-initiative that has created a comprehensive online spelling
tutor.
“The creation of eSpindle has always been a community effort – from
its development to editing its 95,000 word database”, says Rosevita
Warda, president and founder.
“A project of these dimensions is never
‘finished’! We hope this call for entries will help to enhance the work of
our editors and assist learners worldwide.”
Everyone has
experienced how some words seem to resist memorization or are easily
confused and misspelled – frequently using little memory aids will be
the solution.
Shirley Brainy, eSpindle Learning’s online spelling tutor, will share
submissions with our online community of learners and use them to improve
the tutoring experience.
Some examples:
Dessert
is Super Sweet
Rhythm
Has Your Two Hips Moving
Suspense has
a scary ending.
We invite learners of all
ages and backgrounds to submit their favorite spelling secrets.
The winner will be chosen via a final drawing on October 18th,
2005, so all entries have an equal chance to win.
The winner will win a
classroom (or neighborhood) ice cream party, sponsored by Newman’s Organic
ABC cookies and Safeway. Prizes further include a lifetime eSpindle
membership for the winner and annual memberships for four runners up.
T-shirts will also be awarded.
Submissions can be emailed
to Shirley Brainy, eSpindle’s virtual spelling tutor, at
Shirley@eSpindle.org
or faxed to 707.824.1204.
Drawing on an
extensive database of more than 95,000 words, eSpindle’s
patent-pending technology creates custom learning quizzes
based on the member’s goals and skill level. Words are presented with
an on-demand audio file, simple definition, sample
sentence and links to online resources.
A member’s
unique database profile registers which words are already mastered and
repeats those that need practice until they are reliably learned, all
the while tracking the member’s performance.
Affordable
and comprehensive, eSpindle builds spelling and vocabulary skills in
a fun, efficient and methodical way.
eSpindle technology is
carefully designed based on scientific research and the guidance of
eLearning experts. The project has come to life thanks to the support
of a large team of English teachers, editors, writers and other volunteers.
www.eSpindle.org
is a wonderful tool for improving verbal skills and school grades,
avoiding commonly misspelled words, learning English as a foreign
language, overcoming learning disabilities, preparing for the
Spelling Bee and building memory.
Shirley Brainy, eSpindle’s virtual tutor, also provides the most
extensive listing of word roots, prefixes and suffixes available on the
web, a section with study tips, and fun facts relating to
English Spelling.
Annual membership starts at
$99.80. eSpindle Learning is offering a 50% discount to other non-profits
and educational organizations serving minors and disadvantaged students,
reducing the cost to only $49.90 per year (~ $4 per month) for unlimited
access.
