A Vocabulary Program Like No Other
How it all began
eSpindle started from parents'
initiative and a vision of a
better solution.
The “founding mothers” had gone through endless hours tutoring their
children in English spelling conventions.
Whether the task was supporting aspiring Spelling Bee
champions, homeschoolers, children with learning disabilities or just
complying with the weekly
spelling word lists - the amount of parental
involvement was often paired with results that were less than convincing. |

While it was sometimes hard for us to be our children's spelling tutor, we wondered
-
how could parents with limited English skills manage?
With vocabulary being a core component of successful learning we started wondering: Wasn’t there a better way for this
repetitive task?
Looking at existing programs we couldn’t find anything that could
replace or improve our tutoring routine.
Nothing was attentive or resourceful enough to fit the
bill. Books, CDs, software programs... each contained a few hundred words, and all
programs were designed as separate modules, not as ongoing tutoring
support.
What we wanted was a tool that managed the learning process, adjusting to the goals, speed, and skill level of each individual learner. Not being able to find such a tool, we set out to create it.
A visionary project
After careful review of current research, our quickly growing team developed cutting edge,
patent-pending technologies. We infused them with old-fashioned common
sense, and added generous helpings of
the most important ingredient:
The wish to create true value
and an innovative learning solution.
Fueled by the support of volunteers, donors and other
supporters, eSpindle soon turned into a project of extraordinary
dimensions.
eSpindle’s gigantic database of about 150,000 words was edited by English teachers, writers, and editors, many of them volunteering time and expertise.
They carefully compiled hints and sample sentences that are appropriate,
easy, and suitable for this program.
These edits had to carefully avoid the word itself or close variations, and
comply with current educational standards. To this day we are continuously
expanding our resources, and will continue to do so as the English language evolves.

Vocabulary Junction
Since our launch on the web, we have been supporting disadvantaged students with scholarships. It worries us that many students never reach the level of verbal confidence needed to succeed. Our goal is to be able to provide free and fully supported access to eSpindle for U.S. elementary students. Click here for more info.
